The Museo Casa de la Memoria, in the heart of Medellín, Colombia, works to ensure that the memories of the socioeconomic armed conflict that the country is experiencing has a symbolic and physical home to share its lessons with all, so that the country might build a culture of respect for the value of life. The Museum opens its doors to memories and stories, reflection and conscience. It invites the public to learn the facts of the past that have shaped the present, so that the pain reveals its lessons and this history is not repeated.
The Museum promotes the production and circulation of memories, facilitating reflection on the logic of armed conflict, related violence, and resistance. To this end, the Museum carries out two strategic actions:
- Production of individual and collective memories, documentation and preservation of the memories of victims and their organizations, the ex-combatants, and the conflict.
- Circulation and activation of memories through its academic, exhibition, media, and cultural agendas.
