Keweenaw National Historic Park’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of copper mining in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. To help achieve that, the park has three intertwined goals: to collaborate actively with partners to preserve historic resources; encourage a preservation ethic throughout the region; and provide opportunities for reflection about local, national, and contemporary issues rooted in mining history. These include: labor and workers’ rights; immigration and citizenship; and resource extraction and environmental stewardship.
