For nearly 100 years, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. has maintained Monticello for the purpose of sharing it with the public. Tours and exhibitions at the historic plantation help tell the story of Thomas Jefferson and the lives of his family and the enslaved community. Using the Foundation’s extensive research and knowledge, staff members aim to facilitate conversations on a variety of topics including liberty, self-government and the legacies of slavery. Through virtual, off-site and on-site engagement, the Foundation seeks to excite the world about Monticello’s relevance today and convey honest, complicated and inclusive history.
