This 2020 global workshop – to be hosted by the Latin America and Caribbean Sites of Conscience Network – will explore how Sites of Conscience around the world effectively counter revisionist attacks and will develop best practices for Sites being targeted by hostile governments. First session: The Denialism and Relativism Phenomenon

This opening session explored the many layers of denialism and relativism as evidenced in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as more globally. Specifically, it examined a variety of speeches and other tactics that have been used in this regard across different historical experiences.

Second Session: Denialism in Latin America. Past and Present.
Date: October 1, 2020 at 5 pm ET
In this session members will facilitate a dialogue based on specific situations of denialism in the region in recent years. The goal will be to better understand the peculiarities of the phenomenon in Latin America and the Caribbean, and use that knowledge to create public programming and advocacy campaigns to combat it in the future.

Third Session: Memory Sites vs. Denialism
Date: November 5th
This third session will explore how denialist sectors have opposed memory initiatives in the region. Panelists and participants will share their experiences as the targets of these attacks and their strategies for combatting them.

Fourth Session: Future Prospects – Politics of Memory Against Denialism and Relativism
Date: December 3rd
This final session will aim to lay the groundwork for future efforts to combat denialism and relativism in the region. Specific attention will be paid to public policies regarding memory, education as a tool, and the role of the state.
