Adoption inherently involves the subject of place, dislocation – and often, particularly if one explore its historical contexts, human rights. Adoption Museum Project uses the power of museums to help transform adoption – so that all people involved experience dignity and justice. Highly collaborative projects explore the realities of adoption, from the personal to the global systemic, and how adoption links to other experiences and ideas such as reproductive justice, race, and immigration. Both history and current events provide context. In museum environments, all people are invited to reflect on adoption in a new way and engage in conversations that make a difference. Adoption Museum Project was founded in 2013 by Laura Callen, an adopted person, and is based in Berkeley, CA.
