Clayborn Reborn

Clayborn Reborn is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reintroduce the community of Memphis to Clayborn Temple and to engage a national audience. After decades of non-use, plans are now underway to restore and reactivate this sacred space. When complete, Clayborn Temple will inspire multiple audiences to learn the stories of Clayborn’s central role in the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Workers’ Strike. The church’s legacy of activism for civil rights and social justice will be brought to light, empowering that work to continue today. An active schedule of arts, cultural, and educational events will offer many ways to engage the local community as well as a national audience. Clayborn Temple’s significance was recognized in 2017 by placement in the National Register of Historic Places, designation as a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and selection to participate in the National Fund for Sacred Places.
