The James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library is dedicated to the study, interpretation and presentation of the life and times of the fifth President of the United States. Its mission is also to trace the social, political and intellectual influence of James Monroe and to present it within the context of his life through exhibitions, publications, scholarly presentations, community events, and educational programs. The museum focuses on bringing awareness of James Monroe’s public service career and principles to a larger and more diverse audience; encouraging dialogues on civic responsibility and informed engagement in the process of government within a free society; and relating James Monroe’s legacy to contemporary social and political issues, such as domestic political discourse, international relations, and human trafficking.
