Núcleo de Preservação da Memória Política (The Center for the Preservation of Political Memory) appeared first as a working group of the Permanent Forum of Former Political Prisoners and Persecuted in São Paulo, an organization founded to defend the interests of former political prisoners and those persecuted during the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985). Its activities include the promotion of public policies on issues of political memory and in defense of human rights and the creation of educational activities in these areas. Núcleo de Preservação da Memória Política promotes awareness of public and private organizations to establish memorials in places where human rights violations occurred.
