As the largest urban national park in the country, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) studies and preserves the rich biological diversity and rare Mediterranean ecosystems across more than 150,000 acres of mountains and coastline. Stretching from Malibu to the Hollywood Hills, the park is a network of local, state, and federal parks interwoven with private lands and communities. It provides vital green space and clean air for the surrounding densely populated urban areas of Ventura and Los Angeles counties. SMMNRA works to provide access, education, and recreation to the culturally and socio-economically diverse people within this urban center.
