Stonehurst, the country place of social reformer Robert Treat Paine, is an American masterwork designed by architect Henry Hobson Richardson and landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, whose work continues to inspire culturally and environmentally sensitive design. It celebrates and educates visitors about the life of Robert Treat Paine, Jr., the 19th century social reformer, who is best known for his efforts to build housing for low-and middle-income workers. The museum works to encourage engagement, thought, and action in critical contemporary issues related to this history.
