In 2014, twenty leading history museums and cultural centers across the United States launched local public dialogues on immigration in 17 cities and 13 states, from Georgia to Washington state. Employing innovative facilitated dialogue tools, participating sites engaged nearby communities in discussions about American immigration from past to present. Sites included former historic immigration stations; places that highlighted immigrant stories; civil rights, human rights, and social justice institutions; sites near borderlands that address issues of belonging and exclusion; and sites that raise questions about regional and national identity as a way to address increasing diversity in their communities.
